Events taking place around Saint John over the next few weeks:

Mass For Those Living With Cancer
Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 5th, 7pm, at St. Pius X. Mass will be offered for the intention of people living with cancer and for their families and friends. The Sacrament of Anointing will take place following Mass for those who request it.

Seniors’ Mass & Lunch
Villa Madonna will be hosting their monthly event on Wednesday, March 7th. Mass is at 11am, followed by lunch. Cost is $10. Register by calling 849-5125.

Adult Catechesis
Fr. Peter Stephen’s DVD/Discussion series takes place each Thursday evening at 7pm in Saint Joachim’s Parish Hall. The topic for March 8th will be will be “The Virgin Mary”. It is not necessary to have attended any of the previous weeks in order to participate.

St. Patrick’s Day Supper
Stella Maris will be hosting their annual St. Patrick’s Day Supper of Corned Beef and Cabbage, Home-Made Tea Biscuits and Ginger Bread on Saturday, March 10th at 5pm, in their Hall. Tickets are $10 each; with only 150 pre-sold tickets available by calling Martha (648-9535). Following the meal, there will be an Irish Kitchen Party in the Hall, featuring Comhaltas.

Breakfast
Monthly Knights of Columbus breakfast is being held at the Assumption Center, Chapel Street, on Sunday, March 11th, from 9am – 1pm. Cost: Adults $6; Children $3.

Pancake Breakfast
In celebration of 25 years of the Children’s Belfast Project, there will be a pancake breakfast on Sunday, March 11th, 9am – 1pm, at the Bill McGuire Center, 95 James Renforth Drive, Rothesay. Menu also includes sausages, beans, coffee or juice. Cost: Adults $7; Children $5; Family of 4 $20. Comhaltas will be performing traditional Irish music.

Adoration
Exposition/Adoration with Benediction will be held at St. Rose of Lima on Sunday, March 11th from 1 – 2pm.

Country & Gospel Show
Gene O’Connor will be presenting an afternoon of country and gospel music at St. Peter’s on Sunday, March 11th at 2pm. Concert features Dell Worden and Joyce Boone. Tickets are $8 in advance and are available at the Catholic Bookstore or St. Peter’s, or $10 at the door.

Beef Stew Dinner
St. John the Baptist will be holding their annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner on Sunday, March 11th from 4 – 5 pm. Menu also includes Kentucky ginger cake, whipped cream, rolls and a beverage. Take out will be served at 5:30pm. Cost: Adults $10; Children $5. All tickets will be pre-sold, and are available by calling Maureen (633-0391).

St. Patrick’s Day Beef Stew Supper
St. Matthew’s in Grand-Bay Westfield will be holding their annual event on Sunday, March 11th from 4 – 6 pm. Cost: Adults $10, Children $5; Family of 4 $25. There will be live music, a cake walk, and 50/50 and quilt draws.

Terry Hatty Solo
Terry Hatty will be performing Gospel and Contemporary Christian of his own composition at St. Ann’s church on Sunday, March 11th at 7pm. A veteran of 45 years in the music business, Terry has toured the world as lead vocalist of ‘The Guess Who’ and recently co-wrote and starred in ‘Canada Rocks’ at the Charlottetown Festival. Free will offering.

Coping With Suicide
The Canadian Mental Health Association Saint John Branch will be holding “Hope & Healing: Coping with the Suicide of a Loved One”, a 10-week program for individuals who have lost a loved one to suicide. The program will begin on Tuesday, March 13th. For more information, call 633-1705.

Pot Of Gold Bingo
Saint Pius X is holding their annual Bingo on Wednesday, March 14th in their Parish Hall. Early Bird Games begins at 6pm, Regular Games at 7pm. $1,000 Jackpot + 9 games of $100 + $25 second chance regular games. There will also be specials, after games, door prizes and a canteen. Tickets are only $20 and are available by calling St. Pius (653-6830) or Marie (696-8169). Proceeds are going towards ongoing church restoration.

Chocolate Bar Bingo
St. Pius X will be holding a St. Patrick’s Week Family Chocolate Bar Bingo of Friday, March 16th from 6:30 – 8:30pm in their hall. Admission is a chocolate bar. There will be 20 games and each game is 10 cents per card. (Save your dimes!) Prizes for the games will be chocolate bars. Come and enjoy an evening with your family. Door prizes and small canteen will be available. If possible, peanut-free chocolate bars for admission would be suggested. Remember to wear your green.

Fiddlers
The Park Avenue Fiddlers & Friends will be entertaining at St. Ann’s Church Hall on Friday, March 16th from 7:30 – 9:30pm. The will be a freewill offering at the door, with proceeds going towards new doors for the church. Plenty of dancing space available, and free coffee/tea and doughnuts will be served during the break.

Celtic Saints
Gregg Finley and Margaret Anne Smith will be presenting “Journey with the Saints: The Spirituality of Celtic Pilgrimage” on Saturday, March 17th, 10am – 4pm at the Villa Madonna. They will explore the history and spirituality of Celtic saints. Day will include liturgy, prayer, music and an Irish lunch. Cost is $25. Irish Kitchen Party
The Saint Joachim’s Parish Council invites you to join them at their Irish Kitchen Party, on Saturday, March 17th from 8pm – midnight in the Parish Hall, 603 Loch Lomond Road. The evening will feature music and light refreshments. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door, and are available by calling 696-7954 or at the Saint Joachim’s parish office, weekdays between 1:30 – 5pm. Come and be Irish for the night!

St. Patrick’s Day Tea
St. Ann’s will be hosting a tea in their hall on Sunday, March 18th from noon – 2pm. Tickets are $5, and are available by call Barbara Ellemberg (636-7976).

Lenten Community Penitential Service
In preparation for Easter, the three North End parishes of Holy Trinity, St. Pius X, and St. Peter’s are coming together for a Lenten Penitential Service at St. Pius X Church on Sunday, March 18th at 2pm. Other priests will also be present and the community penitential service will conclude with individual confessions.

St. Joachim’s Mission
St. Joachim’s Parish will be holding a Mission in preparation for Holy Week. Mission will take place from Tuesday, March 20th – Thursday, March 22nd. The Mission priest, Father George Gilliland from Prince Edward Island, will preside at noon Mass on those 3 days with a special homily followed by the main mission talk at 7pm each evening.

Lenten Ecumenical Service
An Anglican-Roman Catholic Ecumenical Service will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Main Street, on Sunday, March 25th at 3pm. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this wonderful opportunity to get together with our Anglican brothers and sisters during this holy season.

Zumba For Seniors
Saint Joachim’s holds Zumba Gold classes in the parish hall every Tuesday at 10am. Zumba Gold modifies the pace and the moves of regular Zumba classes making them easier for older or less active participants. Just like the nighttime classes, Zumba Gold is only $5 per person. If you haven’t tried Zumba yet because you thought you might not be able to keep up, this is your chance to get in on the fun! Call Marie (696-8169) for more information.

Senior’s Cards at the St. Joseph’s Church HOPE Centre every Tuesday from 1- 3pm.

Prayer Group
The Crown of Glory prayer group meets every Tuesday at 7:30pm at St. Joachim’s.

K of C Bingo
Come out for a night of fun at the Knights of Columbus Bingo every Friday at St. Joachim’s. Doors open at 5pm. Early games start at 6:30pm; regular games at 7pm. Come and try your luck!

Friday Night Cards
St. Pius X is hosting 45’s every second and fourth Friday of the month. Doors open at 7, games begin at 7:30pm. Admission is only $3/person with a light lunch and 50/50 draw.
